The Flutter UKI Infrastructure Strategy and Solutions Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Flutter UKI hosting strategy, which enables innovation and new business development associated with the public and private cloud, whilst also reducing operational costs, risk, and, over time, on-premise footprint. This will be realised through the appropriate mix of public and private cloud solutions for our solutions, whether customer-facing or employee-facing.

Leading a cross-functional team, and reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, UKI, the successful applicant will interface with the senior executive team and technologists to create the hosting strategy, and translate the strategy into mid to long term technology roadmaps. The successful candidate will be the catalyst for the implementation of this strategy, delivering the capabilities, communications and momentum required to make the strategy a reality.

The successful applicant will situate both public and private cloud technology (both current and emerging) within our overall hosting strategy, assist the business in determining where change should occur, and act as a key sponsor of that change.

The role will interface with the Evolution Director role to ensure that Infrastructure strategy and solutions are aligned to the overall strategies of the Flutter UKI technology function, and the brands enabled by that function.

You will also liaise with the wider Flutter group in matters where there is overlap of interest with respect to platform and infrastructure. It is expected that the role will contribute thought leadership to these initiatives.

The role will require leadership of a small team of solution designers and architects, and the role will cooperate with the leads of both brand aligned Infrastructure functions to agree mutual sharing of experts (engineers (from the brands) and designers/architects (from the Strategy and Solutions function).

  • Create and maintain the governance regime that enables safe adoption of different cloud technologies by divisional and brand aligned functions, through the development of policies, standards and guidelines to direct the selection, development, implementation and safe use of cloud platforms within the organisation.

  • Land the inner sourcing model for the public cloud platform creation, update and management.

Collaboration and operating model

  • Work with development tribes to and ensure best practices and compliance to development standards are upheld across teams.

  • Maintain stakeholder relationships and communications necessary to make the infrastructure vision a reality.

  • Integrate brand strategies, divisional strategies and infrastructure strategy to ensure directional alignment.

  • Own the relationship with public cloud vendors and connect them with relevant stakeholders within the group as required.

  • Identify the Infrastructure-delivered product set that needs to be in place to enable public cloud adoption and work with relevant stakeholders in Infrastructure to ensure the delivery of these products.

Skills and Experience:

  • This role requires a senior person with the gravitas required to land the strategy. The expectation is that this person will be liaising with C suite stakeholders and other senior people both within the business and with third parties.

  • The ability to synthesise deep technical knowledge and detail with higher level strategic objectives, to deliver on a small number of key areas of focus for the business.

  • Passion for looking at our problem spaces with an objective eye, and focused on solutions that are for the benefit of our organisation.

  • Experience of, and understands the requirements that come with managing operational teams, and who can ensure that these requirements are met in our hosting strategy.

  • Up to date with the latest developments in key infrastructure technologies, including, but not limited to, networks, storage, public and private cloud, virtualisation, CI/CD, low latency data distribution, and others.

  • Quickly and effectively identify dependencies between different bodies of work, and plot option to satisfy those dependencies in a way that meets the majority of stakeholder needs.

  • A practical person who can act as the key catalyst for change by assembling the required people and resources around him/her to execute against the envisioned end state for problem spaces within the remit of the function.

  • Direct experience of managing the creation, update and dissemination of standards and tools to measure compliance to those standards, with a view to enabling tribes and other technology stakeholders to serve themselves safely from the range of Infrastructure offerings available.
