The Role...

As part of the group Global Betting Platform (GBP) function, the Principal DevOps Engineer will integrate the team accountable for the GBP platform adoption process. Reporting to the Implementation Manager, the Implementation team will supply the required level of oversight, support and guidance providing the vision and direction for effective platform adoption, consulting Group Divisions on:

  • adoption best practices, standards, tooling and automation

  • structured adoption planning

  • structured resource planning

  • integration process of the GBP capabilities

    As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will be consulting adopting divisions on the optimal strategies for platform capability service hosting, continuous integration, continuous deployment, metric collection and tooling. All the above done having in consideration divisional specific requirements.


What You'll be Doing...

  • Provide a division GBP deployment plan blueprint;

  • Provide consultancy for divisions ramping up to integrate partially or totally the GBP

    capability scope on platform deployment, maintenance and monitoring, while finding

    opportunities for scale to meet divisional demand;

  • Thought leader on the best way to plan the implementation making use of existing divisional tools/platforms and potential new ones;

  • Provide consultancy for divisions on the process for identifying, raising and tracking requirements to have an independent hosting platform where GBP can be operated;

  • Definition and curation of patterns used across divisions to provide standardized deployment tooling and hosting platforms;

  • Provide consultancy and guidance on application / service support models and adoption process;

  • Drive the shared development process for hosting and operations, defining/building common tools to ease the deployment/operational process;

  • Develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to support the divisional teams with requirements;

  • Write well-designed, testable and efficient code;

  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system;

  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems;

  • Break down complex problems into steps that drive the scalability, performance

    and stability of our platform.

We'd love to see...

  • Proven experience on organisational adoption processes of complex software systems based on service-oriented architectures from an Operational perspective is preferential;

  • Linux systems administration, including bash, python or ruby scripting;

  • Configuration management experience, preferably ansible or chef;

  • Experience working with Kafka and message queueing systems;

  • Knowledge of Scala, memcached, Apache Storm, Apache Cassandra, ZooKeeper;

  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery experience, preferably in Jenkins and GoCD;

  • Experience of using established design patterns;

  • Awareness and experience in using agile methodologies

  • Technical experience in managing a highly available and highly scalable cloud environment;

  • Hands-on knowledge of container orchestration;

  • Strong desire to automate and simplify your way out of technical challenges;
