The Role...

Blip is a Tech and Innovation Hub with strong knowledge in software development, mobile apps, web platforms, and retail applications for betting and gaming. We are part of Flutter Entertainment – one of the World ́s Largest Groups in the bookmaking industry, with annual revenue of around 2 billion euros. The Code we develop, powering brands such as PaddyPower, Betfair, and FanDuel, is used by over 5 million people in more than 100 countries and we are in the API Billionaire Club alongside players such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter.

For this role, we're after someone who has a strong customer mindset and is interested in creating the next generation of digital experiences for the Betfair brand. This includes not only our mobile & web experiences but also instore digital touchpoints for our retail customers.

At Betfair, our team is responsible for designing products which are used by hundreds of thousands of avid users every day. This means our designers are expected to craft and tell stories through the eyes of our customers and play a vital role in making our products simple and usable.

As the UI Manager you are able to inspire the team with a visual flare that drives our visual language forward. You know the in's and out's of the latest design trends, knowing when to use and not to use - you understand what the role of brand is in relation to our UI design language and this comes across in every nuanced pixel, the bounce of an animated interaction or consistency that's achieved across all components.

You'll be involved in every aspect of the product development process – from brainstorming and validating ideas to last minute tweaking of interactions right before launch.

What You'll be Doing... 

Main responsibilities

  • Quality control of output within the team (UI).
  • Manages UI design team for Betfair.
  • Inspiring team to excel against expectations.
  • Works to deliver product design vision.
  • Ensures all work is reviewed with the team before stakeholder reviews.
  • Leads design projects.
  • Ensures design process is maintained.
  • Provide regular updates to Manager on all projects in flight.
  • Line management of UI designers, setting yearly goals, gathering stakeholder feedback and putting forward ratings

Additional responsibilities

  • Supports strategy & drives design decisions.
  • Weekly 1-1s with practitioners.
  • Regular catch ups with other leads in Betfair Design teams.
  • Supports workload management – Prioritisation/Planning/Refinement.

 

What We're Looking For... 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Previous management experience
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Strong understanding of animation principles and how they relate to interface design
  • Passionate about understanding current and emerging UX/UI and mobile design trends
  • Experience developing large scale design systems spanning multiple digital touch-points
  • A talent for understanding end-to-end experiences and creating simple, powerful user interfaces
  • Significant knowledge of user-centred design methodologies
  • Willingness to accept feedback early on
  • Passionate about usability and accessibility, with the ability to translate this into your work
  • Strong Sketch/Figma and MS Office skills
  • Strong understanding of touch devices and gestures involved with web and native apps
  • Strong understanding of the technical abilities and limitations of web and mobile technologies
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritise their own work
  • Great communication and facilitation skills

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in a Computer Science, Visual Design/Multimedia, HCI or Psychology discipline, and evidence of a career in a relevant field
